Attila Kozma
Attila Kozma studied dance in the Art School of Pécs, official school of Ballet Pecs. He started his career at the National Theatre Szeged and in Budapest Rock Theatre, but after a while he received engagement at the National Theatre in Miskolc. As a dancer he performed in ballets “Coppelia”, “Fountain of Bakhchisaray”, “Nutcracker”, but also danced in numerous modern and contemporary works. Together with dancing he started creating choreographies at an early age. He was a co-founder of Csarnok 21 Dance Lab with Peter Novak. Between 2001 and 2019 he was the artistic director of the Bartok Plus International Opera Festival. He also created many performances on music of Bela Bartok, such as “The Wooden Prince” and “The Miraculous Mandarin”. He made choreographies for the Festival’s opera productions too, among others for “Tosca”, “Il Trovatore”, “Don Giovanni”… The prominent Open Air Theatre in Szeged invited him to create dance and movement in productions like “Aida”, “The Merry Widow”, “Nabucco”… For Miskolc State Theater he has created many dance performances, before the management of the Theatre founded Miskolc Ballet in 2013, with Attila Kozma as artistic director. Miskolc Ballet serves as the dance ensemble in the musical pieces, but also operates as a dance company. Their first creation was “Romeo and Juliet”, while many interesting productions and titles followed, such as “Anna Karenina”, “Casablanca”, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, “Wuthering Heights”, “John the Vaillant”, “A Clockwork Orange”… Kozma frequently invites guest choreographers to create works for his company. As a new initiative, Horizont International Dance Festival was organized in Miskolc State Theater, since 2017.
